Skype, Chubs, and Smiles

Our life is pretty much centered around little E and we absolutely love it!

The other night we got to chat with some cousins in Washington via Skype and they ended up taking some pictures of us.

Can you tell we kind of love Emmett?
 The boys.
And I tell you what...this little boy is getting to be quite the chunk. (Emmett, not Nate).
It's getting really hard not to squeeze his cheeks!
The most important event this past week was Nate trying and trying to get a smile out of Emmett. He even crawled under his jungle gym to see if he could get a little smile. Didn't work.
But later that night while Nate was changing Emmett's diaper, I hear, "Hurry quick! Come upstairs!"  He finally smiled for Nate (I must include the fact that Emmett had a big blow out and then peed all over the place). That's got to make a guy feel happy.

Wait for it...I can see a smile coming on...
 There it is!!

Growing

This little guy is growing way too fast!

We wish we could just stop time, but we are also getting excited to see his little personality and all the fun things he does everyday.

This picture was just a couple of weeks ago. Still in newborn clothes.
Now look at his cute chunk! He will probably grow out of 3 month clothes in just a week or so.
I weighed him a couple of days ago and he is now 11.5 pounds.
Emmett is so alert. He loves to be awake most of the day. Which helps him to sleep most of the night. He slept 8 hours last night! Yes I know, we are very lucky parents!
I love how his cheeks are starting to grow down around his chin.
I can't get enough of his cuteness!!

Oh Hair!

I'm going to be vain for a little bit.

I'm having a major hair crisis. (I know you're probably laughing but hear me out). About 6 months ago I noticed that my hair was really breaking off in one spot on the top of my head. Well fast forward 6 months and the breakage ended up taking over the whole right side of my head. I had to resort to wearing my hair up everyday. And I can't blow dry it or it ends up having the texture of a black lady's hair and it smells rancid. Not my favorite thing. (You know it's bad when your husband leans over at church and says, "What in the heck is that smell?!") It kept getting worse so I finally decided maybe I should check it out.

So I make an appointment with my dermatologist.
I tell him my history. Nothing out of the normal. He sees Emmett and says, "Well you just had a baby. That's normal for your hair to do weird things." Not quite, but good observation.

He looks confused so he calls in his colleague. They look at my hair like it's infected. The colleague takes out her magnifying glass and just says, "Hmmm, I've never seen this before."

Thanks. I feel good.

After about 10 minutes they decided to take my blood to draw some labs. While that is being done they said they would look through all their books to see if there is anything that will give them answers. I'm feeling pretty good at this point.

They come back in and tell me they have no idea what is going on with my hair. Well there's $100 down the drain.

Then one of the dermatologist says, "Tell you what, why don't you come to my book club tomorrow night."

What?

"It's where all the dermatologists come together and look at patients we can't quite figure out"

Awesome. Kind of like a petting zoo situation?

I figured it couldn't hurt so I go in the next night after hours. I tell the receptionist, "Hi, I'm here for book club." I swear she looked at me with a sympathetic face. Then she led me to a room where I waited for a few minutes. I could hear all the dermatologists in another room studying another poor patient. Then it was my turn. I was right. I felt like I was in a petting zoo.

They all studied my hair. I heard a lot of "hmmm's" and "oh". Not good. Then after about 20 minutes they decided it's probably chemical damage. Not sure if I believe that because I stopped highlighting my hair about 6 months ago when I noticed the breakage. And it got worse after that. But that's their consensus.

So I ask, "What can I do for it?"

The answer: "Really nothing. You will just have to wait for it to grow out in a couple of years. But make sure you don't highlight it."

Nice.

I again ask if there is anything I can do for it because it's embarrassing and pretty stinky and noticeable when I wear it down. One of the dermatologists says, "Oh you will notice more than anyone else." Then he walks behind me and says," Oh yeah, that is pretty noticeable."

Thanks.

So here I am waiting for my hair to grow out. It is getting a bit better but I have some pretty fun rooster tails all the time. I try to do a good job and cover it up.

Seriously. The pictures don't do it justice. I guess I will just have to wait a couple of years. No biggie.

Handsome

So I've never been a fan of Bow Ties. I've never understood them. Until I saw baby Bow Ties. I pretty much fell in love and had to make them for Emmett.
I made a bunch out of scraps of material I just so happened to have. Then I made them so they would just snap right onto his onesie.
 Looking pretty handsome for church!
Next up....baby Neck Ties.

Guy Time

I love watching Nate with little Emmett.
It's probably one of my favorite things.

Here are some of my favorite pictures of my two favorite guys...

Snuggling.
Taking a nap right after work.
Trying to get a smile. (I'm not going to brag but I get some pretty cute smiles almost everyday!)
 Walking around exploring the house.
Yep...that's poop on Nate's shirt if you look closely. Not the first time either.
I walked up the stairs one night and this is what I see in the bedroom. Nate snuggling with Emmett on one side and Skip on the other. Wait...What?!
And of course enjoying the last Braves game of the season together. Nate made sure to order a little infant Braves hat for Emmett so they could watch the game in style. (We won't talk about how that game ended).

Nursery

I have to do a little post on baby Emmett's nursery. I'm pretty proud of it and it all came together in about a week. (I made sure to leave things to the last minute).

Here it is...Ta DA!
I went with a gray, blue, and yellow theme. The first thing I did was paint the walls gray and the dark trim white. It took 4 coats to paint that ugly dark trim and the closet doors. It was a bit of a pain. I was going to convert the rest of the upstairs dark trim to white but decided I didn't have the motivation to do that. Another time I suppose.
My mom ended up making these cute crib bumpers. She whipped those things out so fast. Got to love her sewing talent. I couldn't find a large letter "E" anywhere so I cut one out of a big cardboard box and covered it in blue string.
I also saw this mobile on Pinterest and had to make one.  It was very easy and fun to make.
I found cute car prints for free online (sorry you can't see them very well) and I spray painted some dollar store frames yellow to put them in. I also ended up making curtains out of extra fabric I had on hand. All in all it was a very cost efficient project. Just how I like it.

And I couldn't resist posting a smile we captured on camera. Don't you just love that double chin going on now?!
